Taryn spent her time at Propel pursuing a career exploration project, designed to help her figure out what she might want to consider as a future career. To accomplish this, she completed four mini-projects, each focusing on different areas of interest. The first two of these projects were designed to get Taryn “out of her comfort zone” and experience new things. The next two were to help her gain insight into fields she was already interested in.
The first project Taryn explored was photography. Whenever one of her classmates needed photos for their project, Taryn was the “go-to” person and her peer became a client. The next project was an exploration of early childhood education. Taryn spent a total of six days at Valley Gardens Playschool, working with early childhood educators to teach three and four-year-old children. Taryn’s third project was a biology project to help her gain insight into what it’s like being a biologist. She crafted a hypothesis and then tested it by conducting an experiment and recording data. For her final project, Taryn volunteered at the Winnipeg Pet Rescue. She spent four days a week at the shelter working with rescue animals. From the employees, she learned what a career working with animals might look like.
