Sage DH - To Be Found Under Streetlights (Short Story Writing)
Through oral stories and written accounts, Sage grew up around the riveting tales of her great-great-aunts, their lives often seeming to be more like fiction than fact. To Be Found Under Streetlights is a collection of short stories, inspired by the enduring lives of the Herring sisters. Sage decided she would write a collection of five short stories, told from the points of view of the sisters, and the struggles they faced at a time when society did not encourage the independence and authenticity of young women. The stories of Mabel, Kay, Pat, Marge, and Olive each focus on a separate struggle that the girls had to face as they were finding themselves and their own individual places in the world. Sage also used this opportunity to further develop her skills as a writer. She determined five different techniques of good writing to focus on – one in each story – as she crafted the collection.
