Video Game - Sophia

For my Propel project, I decided to create a video game. I was aware from the start that I wouldn’t have enough time for a full-scale indie game, so I settled on creating a dev room containing one of every asset, though it eventually grew into a demo. Before Propel started I had written down a list of possible ideas for games, but when I asked my best friend Arlo for ideas, he gave me the one I settled on. You play as a sentient, anthropomorphic, transmasculine mushroom. He wanders around a forest full of similar cartoonish anthropomorphic flora and fauna akin to him, inviting them to a picnic. When the picnic starts, his merry little band of friends overthrow their government. I coded it in the Unreal engine, choosing the look of two-dimensional sprites in a low-poly three-dimensional world, like the classic first-person shooter, DOOM. On top of coding, I created a small soundtrack using my kalimba and ocarina. With some reference doodles from Arlo, I made pixel art sprites for characters, certain objects and props.
