I have always loved photography, but a couple of summers ago I started shooting film and this love turned into my passion. I prefer shooting film because of the process: explore, shoot, develop, scan, and edit. Pouring that much work into seeing a couple photographs makes them feel more special. I noticed that I am drawn to things that have been abandoned. I love to imagine what they used to be like in their prime and how they used to be full of life. Now, they are left to rot. Naturally, these abandoned places are the subjects I like to shoot. After going through a couple project ideas, I decided to create a photobook. Throughout the process of shooting various types of film with several different cameras, I started to see a story develop. The book starts off with photographs of cars, houses, and objects that people have taken care of, but as you move through the book the photographs transition to items that look unkept and discarded. “Outdated” is my first publication and has 39 photographs that take the viewer through this journey between renewal and decay.
