Sustainable Clothing Brand - Nadia
Even before being accepted into the Propel Program, Nadia knew that her project was going to be fashion-oriented. However, it wasn’t until she attended the United Way Sustainable Development Goals Conference and had the opportunity to see the West Central Women’s Resource Centre that she realized she wanted her project to revolve around the support and service of women in need within her community. Thus, she married both her love of fashion and love of helping others together to create her perfect project.
While in Propel, Nadia created an online clothing store that communicated a message in a business context. The message that her store conveyed was that responsible consumption and production were possible to achieve in a clothing business. Nadia’s store was dedicated to working with local women’s shelters and community groups in need of clothing. She bought eight pieces of clothing from vintage or thrift stores and altered them. Nadia altered a top, a cardigan, a jacket, two pairs of pants, a dress, and two skirts. The websites that she published her pieces on were Poshmark, Depop, and Instagram. A portion of the profits from her store sales went towards supplying hygiene products to women in need.
