My original project idea for this semester was to write three short stories. This didn’t work because my motivation to write usually comes to me in spontaneous bursts, and this wasn’t ideal for a five-month-long project that I needed to be able to work steadily on. So, I scrapped the idea and switched projects, instead choosing to make an original song.
It’s called “Kill Me Kindly,” and it tells of the struggles you face as you try to get away from someone who is toxic to you. It’s about wanting this person to leave you alone, to “kill you kindly” in their mind because their presence has become so overbearing that it’s starting to take a toll on your own wellbeing.
The song idea was perfect for me because I still wanted to be able to incorporate writing into my project, and music-making has always been interesting to me. I created an original melody on my ukulele, wrote my lyrics, and learned how to use GarageBand to finalize the piece.
