When Janine returned to Propel as a grade 12 mentor, she knew exactly what she wanted to do for a project. Janine set out to create a collection of poems titled Moonwater. This book bound together her work written throughout her high school years to tell a coming of age story. This story uses water as a metaphor for femininity and its treatment within society. Her book covers topics such as intersectional feminism, LGBTQ* issues, climate justice, and other social justice causes.  

Throughout the semester Janine continued to pursue activism and spoken word by sharing her work at coffee houses and fundraisers. She also toured in high schools to promote her book. Moonwater is being published by McNally Robinson with the launch being held on June 15th. Janine has not only learnt to write poetry on a deadline, but also what it takes to format, edit, and receive feedback on her work. She has continued to develop her skills regarding outreach, networking, and event planning.
