Emily’s project this semester was to learn the basics of producing a song, with the goal of writing and releasing one original piece.
Her first step was learning how to use the music production software GarageBand, and to then write an original song, including lyrics and the accompaniment. Once “Ecstasy in Cold Space” was completed, she began to establish cover art and promotional material to complement the piece.
Emily wanted the lyrics to be open for interpretation, yet still have a unified meaning behind them. Emily says she wanted to address concerns that society seems to be increasingly inclined to repeat processes over and over, even when the result might be detrimental and/or harmful. The lyrics, title, and cover art were crafted to help communicate this central idea.
